ABG / Bau Beratung Boldt: Building waterproofed basements
If the basement is damp the dream of a home of one’s own can rapidly become a nightmare. No one should settle for basic standards, especially in high quality, architect-designed houses, Nevertheless architects often give their clients a choice between bitumen and concrete basement tanking, and it is worth noting that neither system is waterproof. Anyone seeking to provide a high quality home with a comfortable and habitable basement should therefore choose a truly effective and secure sealing method. The building consultant Bau Beratung Boldt has worked together with ABG to develop the ABG basement sealing system (ill.). With its combination of ABG sealing membrane and ABG breathable membrane it provides a breathable basement tanking solution that complies with the industrial standard DIN 18195, Part 6, offering the most effective protection against penetration by aggressive external water. This is a system that originated in the environmental protection sector. An ABG basement is waterproof and breathable and, as the exhibitor points out, it creates a comfortable living area too.
ARDEX: Ready for laying and hard-wearing
“ARDEX A 60“ (ill.) is a hard-wearing quick-drying cement that substantially speeds up construction work, compared with conventional screeds, because it dries and hardens faster. Tiles as well as natural ashlar and concrete slabs can be laid after just one day, while elastic surfaces and textile coverings as well as parquet flooring can be laid after only four days. In particular due to its extended processing time of 90 minutes this quick-drying cement is easy to spread and dries with hardly any shrinking. In addition, by complying with the strength categories CT-C45-F5 (MV 1:5) to CT-C50-F7 (MV 1:4), ARDEX A 60 is highly resistant to pressure and has a high tensile strength. It can also be left bare, and is ideal for industrial and trade uses. This quick-drying cement gives excellent coverage and is a low emission product (EC 1 PLUS R).

BEVER: cavity width increased to 250 millimetres
BEVER is exhibiting a further improvement to its innovative, stainless steel Multi-Plus cavity wall tie at bautec 2018. As with the existing wire ties, types Well-L, PB-10, ZV-Welle and PU-Welle, the gap between the wall leaves has been increased to 250 mm and has been approved by the building inspectorate. Designed for use in thin-bed joints in cavity walls, these ties now also meet the requirements for insulation materials of increased thickness. The improvements to the cavity wall ties resulting in a larger cavity between leaves is a logical development resulting from the increasing demands for heat insulation and is also a response to requests from the market, this exhibitor explains. Now that approval has been given by the building inspectorate for Multi-Plus cavity wall ties (ill.) with a gap between wall leaves of up to 250 mm, BEVER is able to offer construction companies, builders’ merchants, architects and structural engineers the necessary planning certainty. Furthermore, removing the need for extensive recalculations and time-consuming special permits also reduces costs.
Blauberg Ventilatoren: Fresh air without ducting
Ventilation systems are now established as a standard feature in residential and business premises. This is due to the high degree of heat recovery and also to their energy efficiency, enabling costs to be kept very low. However, when centralised systems are being installed, especially during the refurbishment of older buildings, the assembly work can be expensive and time-consuming. These problems can be avoided by using the “Freshbox 100” (ill.) from Blauberg Ventilatoren GmbH: This decentralised ventilation system for single rooms can be easily mounted on walls. A number of different versions are available, suitable for any climatic conditions. With its outstanding heat recovery of 96 per cent this system has an output of up to 100 m³/h.
bluMartin: High insulation value and highest filter classification
The demand-driven freeAir 100 ventilation unit from bluMartin uses fine dust filters to produce clean, healthy and pollen-free air in living spaces, without the need to open the windows (ill.). The extremely high sound insulation value of this externally mounted ventilation unit of up to 60 dB means that residents can enjoy undisturbed sleep even in centrally located areas. The outside air filter is rated Filter Category M5. F7 filters may be fitted as an option. In conformity with the new industrial standard ISO 16890, in future filters will be classified in accordance with the separation efficiency for fine particulate sizes PM 1, PM 2,5 and PM 10 and for large particulates. The particulate matter (PM) standard is based on the size of such particulates in μm. At PM 10 the F7 filter on the freeAir 100 can achieve 85 per cent separation of fine particulates, at PM 2.5 the figure is 65 per cent, and at PM 1 it is 55 per cent. With these figures the F7 filter on this ventilation unit achieves the highest classification, ePM 1, for which a minimum value of greater than 50 per cent is required.

Grohe: Smart safety system prevents water damage
Domestic water damage represents a risk that is all too often underestimated. It was this situation that motivated the development of GROHE Sense and GROHE Sense Guard. Not only do they enable the threat of leakages to be identified, they can also eliminate them altogether. GROHE Sense (ill.) is a smart water sensor that only needs to be placed on the floor to detect water. If the underside of the sensor comes into contact with water resulting from a leak or other water damage, the GROHE Sense sounds an alarm. The affected person is notified immediately by the ONDUS app on a smartphone. In addition the GROHE Sense Guard acts as a smart monitoring device and can be attached to the domestic mains water supply by a qualified plumber or water engineer. Dangers such as a burst pipe are identified in this way and the water supply is immediately cut off. GROHE Sense Guard can also measure water consumption, enabling users to monitor their individual water consumption at any time.

The data flow is based on a data model (BIM) and guarantees significant time-savings with project planning for new construction and refurbishment. HottCAD, for the integrated acquisition of CAD data, combines the necessary basic input relating to buildings, rooms and components, as well as trade-specific inputs. This data is then forwarded to the relevant calculation applications. Verifications, parts lists, planning documents or invitations to tender / bids can be derived and edited. Importing and exporting are facilitated by means of interface technology. This data can then be used to carry out calculations for heating and pipe networks, ventilation concepts or energy consultation services, as well as for simulation processes, for example, for the thermal response of buildings, combined heat and power or heat pump installations.
IMI Hydronic Engineering Deutschland: Ideally designed, energy-efficient heating system
When it comes to underfloor heating there is now a fast and easy way of achieving maximum output while also conserving energy. Underfloor heating is now a standard feature of many residential buildings. However, providing the best possible heating performance in combination with hydraulic equalisation can be extremely complex and time-consuming. The “Dynacon Eclipse” underfloor heating controller (ill.) uses automated flow control (AFC) technology from IMI Heimeier to achieve significant cost reductions. With existing heating circuit controllers equipped with standard valves and flow indicators the adjustment of the system is a laborious process. The Dynacon Eclipse can be adjusted in a single action and immediately provides an ideally regulated, energy-efficient heating system.

Komsol Deutschland: Lasting protection for old and new buildings
Treatment with Controll®Innerseal offers an alternative to the standard method of sealing buildings with the more vulnerable bitumen. Applied to the wet concrete, it closes the pores just under the surface, while allowing the water used in mixing the concrete to diffuse in a controlled manner. By penetrating up to 20 cm into the concrete and binding with it, Controll®Innerseal also protects the iron reinforcement against the effects of moisture. Structural cracks can allow moisture and chloride contamination to cause crevice corrosion in the reinforcement. Following rust removal the pH value of the concrete can be reduced to a safe level by applying Controll®Deepclean. Controll®Topseal (ill.) can be used to protect the exterior surfaces of the natural stone or facing concrete on facades. The heat transfer coefficient in stone is substantially reduced and the risk of frost-induced flaking due to water penetration is avoided.
KUHFUSS DELABIE: Flexibly adjustable assembly
KUHFUSS DELABIE forms part of the DELABIE group, which claims to be Europe’s market leader for sanitary fittings and equipment for the public and commercial sectors. LTM: h,x-controlled basement ventilation with intake tower
A useful addition has been made to the LTM Thermo 200-50 range of intelligent basement ventilation units. The inclusion of an intake tower (ill.) now makes it possible to reliably ventilate and extract air from basements whose walls are below ground level. The stainless steel intake tower is of outstanding quality and is also weather-resistant. An LTM Thermo 200-50 ventilator with built-in sensors registers the condition of the external air and the extracted air. Using specially developed algorithms these conditions are compared in an h,x diagram in order to identify the drying capacity. A speed regulator adjusted to the particular condition of the air is used to set the required air exchange rate. By interacting with another LTM Thermo 200-50 ventilation unit of standard design the ideal are conditions can be created in a basement, and problems typically associated with basements such as mould and damage to the building structure are now a thing of the past.
Lüftungsbüro Berlin/Brandenburg/MV: Central ventilation units with rotating heat exchanger
Lüftungsbüro Berlin/Brandenburg/MV is displaying its new central ventilation units (ill.) with heat recovery for single-family dwellings and apartments at bautec 2018. With a choice of a flat model, with a height of just 23.5 cm, or floor- or wall-mounted, this exhibitor can provide the ideal unit for every purpose. Advantages include: no condensation, remote control, and rapid changeover of the inlet and outlet from right to left within 10 minutes. Furthermore the heat exchange will not ice up when exposed to temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius, thereby removing the need for pre-heating. The humidity recovery improves the condition of the air in rooms with high drying rates. The F7 pollen filter on the inlet and outlet sides is fitted as standard. These ventilation units are also designed to operate with a central building services control system.
Magnum Aleksandra Tyszka-Filipek: Insulation material made from recycled paper

The CELLUMIT panels are made from recycled paper and perlite, without the inclusion of any chemical components. The renovation of a house or apartment is an opportunity to increase the insulation coefficient by up to 35 per cent. CELLUMIT panels are suitable for floors, walls and ceilings, especially if insulation either cannot be applied externally or if this is not possible because the building has protected status. This new insulating material has many applications, both in the renovation of older buildings and in new construction.
MAICO Elektroapparate-Fabrik: Extremely compact and simple to install
MAICO is exhibiting four new products at bautec. The “PushPull 45” single room ventilation unit provides excellent ventilation for living spaces and can be used without the need to install any ducting. It operates very quietly and is installed directly in the room. The two corresponding units alternate to supply fresh air and extract stale air. The fully automated basement ventilation units, the “AKE 100” (ill.) and “AKE 150”, ensure a permanent balance between the humidity in basement rooms and that of the outside air. Humid air is only expelled from the building if the air flowing in from outside is drier. The “ER EC” individual ventilation system is ideal for use in bathrooms and toilets in multi-storey buildings. It satisfies all the housing industry requirements and complies with DIN 18017-3 and DIN 1946-6. The decentralised “Duo” ventilation unit ensures perfect air conditioning in next to no time. These very compact units are supplied ready for use and are very easy to install.
MAKO: Rapid formwork for concrete surfaces and parapets
Additional formwork is needed to construct parapets. To avoid this the solution until now has been to make use of stay-in-place formwork to create ring beams, placing them on the concrete surface with the formwork opening face down. However, in such cases it was essential to use additional bracing consisting of squared timber or a plank to take the weight of the concrete. The precise interaction between the system of edge overlay formwork and the enormous stability provided by MAKORING-TIP (ill.) ensures the best possible formwork, and this can be carried out in a very short time. Moreover the formwork can be applied to the concrete surface and even the parapet quickly and with the utmost reliability and precision. This modern method of overlay formwork has many applications, from house building to industrial construction work. It is available for use with masonry work in all widths and in heights of up to 100 cm.
Naturfeuer: Log-burning heat pump from GUNTAMATIC is easier to use
Once again GUNTAMATIC has combined the advantages of two heating systems and the log burner heat pump (ill.) utilises the strengths of these two systems. The log burner component of this installation is available if the user has the time and inclination, and at other times energy can be obtained from the ambient air. This provides added comfort during the transitional period, and fully automated operation can be deployed in winter. The air heat pump operates very quietly as it extracts heat from the surrounding area and feeds it into the heating system. Although it is less efficient when external temperatures are low, it comes into its own during the transitional period. In contrast, the efficiency of the wood gasifier decreases when it is running at a low output, and it is at its best being run flat out. Consequently the combination of the two systems is extremely efficient and environmentally friendly. Naturfeuer AG represents the GUNTAMATIC regional office in Berlin/Brandenburg.
ÖkoFEN Heiztechnik: Pellet boiler for even the smallest utility room
In existing buildings where radiators have already been installed, the generally high return temperatures have meant that it has rarely been possible to use pellet burners when refurbishing the heating system. ÖkoFEN now makes this possible and with models varying in output between 4 and 256 kW this European specialist in pellet heating, can claim to offer the widest range on the market. A unique technology enables the pellet-fired condensing boilers to be installed in any heat distribution system, regardless of the return temperature, and they are remarkable for their efficient operation, with the best possible performance figures and lowest emissions. The innovative ÖkoFEN compact Pellematic Smart XS (ill.) combines advanced condensing technology with buffer storage, heating circuit groups, fresh water module and an optional solar heat exchanger, all in one unit. With a footprint of just 0.9 m² this boiler can be installed even in the smallest utility room.
Oventrop: Efficient heat supply and reliable hygiene
The “Aquanova System” from Oventrop combines a number of high quality solutions in the field of drinking water technology. The “Regudis W-HTE electronic home unit” (ill.) is part of the “Aquanova system” and sets new standards in the areas of energy-efficient domestic heating and in drinking water hygiene, according to this exhibitor. It incorporates many advantages from both of these sectors. For example only minimal supply temperatures (drinking and hot water temperature +5 degrees Celsius) are required in order to provide hot water at up to 25 l/min. The “Regudis W-THE” also guarantees hygienic operation, because it is not necessary to maintain a supply of domestic hot water, since this is provided on a just-in-time basis. The low pressure losses in the heating and domestic water circuits improve the overall efficiency of the unit.
redstone: Combating green staining and other deposits
It is an unfortunate fact that facades, walls, plasterwork and timber surfaces can often become dirty and unsightly again soon after they have been thoroughly cleaned. The same situation may occur on newly constructed surfaces too. As a result such surfaces often have to be cleaned and repainted, which is both laborious and costly. However rainwater simply rolls off surfaces and facades that have been treated with Secco Protect Stein (for stonework and masonry) and Secco Protect Holz (for timber) (ill.). In so doing it easily removes any contamination and washes it off. A thin coat of the transparent, solvent-free and odourless waterproofing is applied. It is very economical to use, easy to apply and also resistant to UV radiation, acid rain and salt water.
Reflex Winkelmann: Efficient degassing with the Servitec Mini
The performance of heating and cold water systems depends to a large extent on the quality of the water. Systems have to operate with maximum effectiveness in order to achieve the desired efficiency. The Reflex Servitec Mini (ill.) is very effective at degassifying the water in the system, resulting in a perfect hydraulic balance. It uses vacuum spray pipe degasification technology, which until now was confined to larger heating systems in multi-occupancy buildings or industrial plants, where reflex vacuum spray pipe degassification has been successfully used for heating and cooling applications for many years. The Servitec Mini operates in accordance with the same principle and has been designed to improve all kinds of water-based circuits for private use and for systems with a low volume of water. Its advantages are that it ensures the lasting reliability of the system due to the quality of the water, as well as achieving the best possible thermal use and potential energy savings of up to 10.6 per cent.
Remeha: High-performance condensing boiler suitable for wall mounting
Remeha is introducing a new, high-performance condensing boiler, the Quinta Ace (ill.), which can be wall-mounted. This compact unit has a rated useful heat output of 160 kW and is available in two versions. The basic version of the Quinta Ace can easily be integrated in existing building management systems, and a premium version is available if more control systems are required directly on the boiler itself. This is supplied with built-in a control board as standard, to select a mixed and unmixed heating circuit, as well as a buffer controller and cascade controller. The unit operates with a weather-compensated control system based on Remeha iSensePro control logic. This is operated via a plain text display. Another outstanding feature of both Quinta Ace models is the new gas-air unit with a modulation range of between 19 and 100 per cent.
REMKO: Efficient operation and an attractive design
The most obvious feature of the “ArtStyle HTS” heat pump (ill.) from Remko is the elegant styling of the external module, available to customers in either a wood or aluminium finish. This split unit also offers some outstanding technical details. The HTS ArtStyle heat pump has a heat output of between 1 and 23 kW in four different sizes. It can produce a COP of up to 5.1 and can be used for heating, cooling and to produce hot water. Among other factors its highly efficient operation is the result of the inverter-plus technology that it uses. As this exhibitor explains, all the positive features of this heat pump ensure that it achieves the best ErP efficiency rating of A++. Particular mention should be made of the almost silent operation of the external module, which has been achieved by redesigning the entire unit. Remko has also incorporated a smart control system.

A joint concept for creating high quality steam rooms and shower solutions (ill.) is now available from GROHE and SCHEDEL. The GROHE collections with high quality taps, shower sprinklers and accessories as well as innovative lighting, music and steam modules blend perfectly with the design options and room architecture from SCHEDEL. A large ceiling-mounted sprinkler with integrated lighting, a hand-held sprinkler and, if required, side-mounted sprinklers, combine to create an exceptional showering experience. Suitable music can be chosen to provide a harmonious background to showers that promote a sense of wellness. Fine steam from the GROHE module enhances one’s sense of relaxation. The main components of the steam shower, such as the flush-mounted taps and the vapour barrier, are already supplied pre-assembled by SCHEDEL, ensuring rapid installation.
SFA SANIBROY: Wall-mounted element with integrated small pumping system
The use of wall-mounted elements in bathroom design is acknowledged as state-of-the-art technology for new and refurbished buildings. The speed of the “dry” construction procedure and improved noise protection are its main benefits. With the new “Saniwall Pro UP” wall-mounted range (ill.) SFA and GROHE have now added further improvements: The all-inclusive combination of pumping unit, wall-mounted module and glass cladding is ideal when installing a WC on a wall and with an installation width of only 500 mm it can be easily fitted in any bathroom. The small built-in pump unit from SFA SANIBROY can now effectively and quietly dispose of grey and black water from such bathrooms up to heights of 5 m and over distances of 100 m. In addition to the WC, this system also enables water to be drained from an adjacent shower or washbasin, bidet or urinal.
SIK-Holzgestaltung: A cube for every purpose
A cube comprises six squares, but the square itself, with all sides of the same length, is rarely found in nature. One could almost say that the square was created by humans. In its regularity the square, along with the circle, is a geometric shape distinguished by its uncompromising clarity. This impression is emphasised further in the three-dimensional version of the square, the cube. The regularity of the cube creates harmony and is a popular choice in spatial design. These are three compelling reasons for also offering the cube in the design of open spaces, as a module for movement, play or seating (ill.). The cubes can be set up individually or as a group. Colour can be used to emphasise squares, edges or built-in elements of a cube, thereby enhancing the creation of a space. In such situations the cube is a light, transparent framework for various cross-generational uses that promote movement, coordination and social contact.
