up#Berlin: Innovations – the building of the future
Berlin, 21. February 2020
On Thursday, at a panel discussion at the forum up#Berlin in Hall 4.2, planners and architects exchanged views on new solutions for urban housing. In order to still be able to create high-quality buildings in times of rising construction and property costs, Christian Roth of Zander Roth Architekten (Berlin) presented projects that maximise the amount of available space. Buildings with apartments above supermarkets, of the kind being promoted by Lidl, or housing next to schools, could utilise space more efficiently in urban areas. Jan Schellhoff of UN Studio presented multi-purpose buildings such as the Green Spine high-rise in Melbourne, whose aim is to transport the quality of life of surrounding nature into the city and thus put a stop to overdevelopment. MIRIS from Norway presented its Svart Resort concept, a joint venture with Snøhetta, which is a vision of the world’s first energy-positive hotel. It also highlights solutions for saving energy in existing buildings and computer centres as well as ways of making buildings of the future more climate-friendly.
